I was born in a small town called Mathura in the state of Uttar Pradesh in India.
My parents named me Gopal after Lord Krishna who according to Indian mythology is known to have been born in this town.
My father was a doctor in the Indian army. I have an older brother who was ten years older to me and a younger sister who is one year younger to me.
As kids we travelled from one town to another every 3 years.
After Mathura the next stop was Poona now known as Pune, a vibrant city in the state of Maharastra.
My sister was born there. We have fond memories of our childhood from Poona.
Next Dad was posted in his hometown of Calcutta now known as Kolkata. Once capital of British India it is now a great multicultural city in the Eastern Indian state of West Bengal.
Off we went to Guwahati, capital of the State of Assam in the North East of India.
A great place amongst the foothills of the Himalayas.
The Army camp was in a beautiful place called Vasistha on the outskirts of the city very close to a beautiful waterfall. I spent my year 9 fishing along the local river.
Then we went to the extreme west of India to the town of Jullundur in the State of Punjab.
This was where I excelled in Table Tennis and Badminton and finished my final years of my schooling.
Next we were back in Assam in the small town of Silchar.
I did a year of BSc in Zoology before joining Burdwan Medical College in the State of West Bengal for my MBBS degree.
Burdwan was heaven on earth. I spent 7 years of my youth here. For the first time fell in and out of love while I was there and made some great friends.
I came to live with my parents and sister in Calcutta in 1991 and joined Calcutta University to train as a Paediatrician.
I completed my DCH ( Diploma in Child Health) and MD ( Doctor of Medicine) from Calcutta University before moving to the UK for further education.
Life in the UK started in 1997 with the PLAB test followed by the DCH and FRCPCH and now I am a Consultant Paediatrician.
It has taken me from Romford in Greater London to Portsmouth in Hampshire, followed by Dudley in the West Midlands to Barnstaple in Devon and onward to Doncaster in South Yorkshire.
Final Stop.Bolton.Home away from home.
I have now started working as a Consultant Paediatrician at Royal Bolton Hospital from January 2016
